Stihl 251 Wont Start

My stihl 251 doesn't have many hours. I noticed when I couldn't start the chainsaw that when I turned the saw to check the gas that I was leaking gas out of the muffler. I took off the muffler and dried everything, put it back together, and it didn't leak anymore. However, I still cannot start the machine. Any ideas?

Why will my Stihl chainsaw not start?

The carburetor might be clogged. A clogged carburetor is often caused by leaving fuel in the chainsaw for a long period of time. Over time, some of the ingredients in the fuel will evaporate, leaving behind a thicker, stickier substance. This sticky fuel can clog up the carburetor and prevent the engine from starting.

How do you fix a Stihl chainsaw that won't start?

Dirty or clogged fuel tanks, dirty fuel filters and lines, loose fuel hoses, dirty air filters and a dirty carburetor can all restrict fuel flow. Check, clean and replace all the fuel system parts before moving into the internal engine, as gas problems create a majority of starting problems.

What would cause a chainsaw not to start?

The chainsaw's engine is flooded with fuel.

A fuel issue is one of the most common reasons why a chainsaw won't start. ... If you believe fuel has flooded the chainsaw engine, pull the starter cord several times while holding the throttle, dry and replace the spark plug, and then try starting the chainsaw again.
