I Started My Chainsaw Ms660 Magnum. Broke Sprocket And Bent Chain

Hi, I put my 30in bar on my MS660 Magnum today. Just dressed the bar and put a clean sharp chain on. Kicked it over and fired up. Flicked off choke and fired it up again noticed my brake wasnt engaged so flicked it over then gave a few revs then bam the cage sprocket sheered in half and bent up my chain. I was wondering if there could be a reason for this or is it that the cage sorocket may have just been worn out. Never happened before and on a bloody sunday.
