Takes 40+ Minutes Before Can Open Subzero 700tci2 Frig Door After Being Closed

When we first bought our subzero, we realized that after we opened the refrigerator door and then closed it, the door seemed to create a “vacuum” seal until the interior temperature had recovered.  If we tried to open the door immediately after closing it, the vacuum seal would not let us do so.  We had to wait until the vacuum released, which usually took about 15-60 seconds depending on how long the door had been left open.   About two weeks ago, my husband was in the kitchen cooking, and I noticed him jerking the door open in spite of its vacuum seal.  Doing so caused the gasket to rip, and I then noticed an air leakage sound being made each time the door was closed and the vacuum seal was in effect.  The air leak sound would stop after the vacuum seal released.  But I noticed that from that point on, it started taking longer and longer for the vacuum seal to release.  (In all fairness, the problem of taking longer and longer for the seal to release may have begun before my husband started forcing the door open, and I may just not have noticed until I saw him doing so.)   I hoped that by replacing the gasket, this problem would go away, but it has not.  I timed the vacuum this morning, and it took over 40 minutes for the vacuum to release enough that I could open the frig door again!   Please tell me that there are some other things I can do to trouble shoot this problem myself before I have to call in a repairman.  My husband and I own several properties and have worked on many appliances ourselves, including replacing mother boards, etc.  I hope this is a problem we can tackle ourselves.
