Im Visiting Uk From Us And Cant Get Service On My Blackberry Tour. Need Help

I've got a Verizon Blackberry Tour 9630 which is supposed to be globally capable. Im visiting the UK and since i arrived i havent had service and only get a SOS signal. i have tried everything including unlocking the phone which i didnt think was necessary. after unlocking, i can get a full signal for just a moment then it goes back to SOS. It has a Verizon/Vodafone sim card. is there anything i can do to make it work? and yes i know theres a global support line but i cant call it because the phone dont work.
