The belly pan, also known as the motor hood or motor cover, is a protective cover that sits over the motor of a treadmill.

Its purpose is to protect the motor from dust, debris, and sweat that may accumulate during use. It also helps to reduce noise and vibration.

It is not recommended to use a treadmill without the belly pan as it can lead to damage and wear and tear to the motor, which can be expensive to repair or replace. Additionally, the lack of protection may also pose a safety hazard if foreign objects get stuck inside the motor or belt.
