Thank you for your question. Based on the picture you attached, the distortion you are seeing is likely caused by atmospheric turbulence or what is known as "seeing". Venus is a planet that is closer to the Sun and hence appears much brighter than other objects in the sky. This brightness can exacerbate the effects of atmospheric turbulence.

To reduce the effects of atmospheric turbulence and improve the image quality, you can try the following tips:

  1. Wait for better atmospheric conditions: Try to observe Venus when the sky is clear, and the air is still. Turbulence is more likely to occur when the air is warm and rising.
  2. Allow your telescope to acclimate: When you take your telescope outside, it takes some time to adjust to the ambient temperature. Allow your telescope to adjust to the outside temperature for at least 30 minutes before observing.
  3. Increase the magnification: Use a higher power eyepiece to increase the magnification. This can help to reduce the apparent distortion caused by atmospheric turbulence.
  4. Use a filter: A neutral density filter can reduce the brightness of Venus and make it easier to observe. A color filter can also help to enhance the contrast of Venus against the background sky.

I hope these tips will help you to improve your viewing experience. Remember that observing the night sky takes practice, and with time, you will become more proficient at it.
