Memory Card Reader Interferes With Startup

When I press the Start button on my a1600n, the green power supply light on the back of the unit lights up, and I get a continuous string of fairly long beeps. No keyboard, no mouse, no video. If I unplug the Memory Card reader, the computer starts up fine. What do I need to do to get the memory cards working again?
