Missing Insulation?

Is there supposed to be some sort of barrier between the flame of the oven and the drawer? It seems that there is no insulation between the flame of the oven and the drawer and it gets extremely hot in and around the base of the unit.  When I open the drawer, I can see the flame.  Is this right, or should there be something in-between?  it gets really hot
